Osun

Two individuals were shot on Monday during violent clashes between All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members in Boripe Local Government Area of Osun State. The conflict erupted after reinstated APC council executives attempted to resume office following a Court of Appeal ruling.

Tensions flared when APC members, celebrating their return to office, were ambushed by PDP supporters outside the council premises, leading to gunfire and injuries. Amotekun Corps operatives arrived to restore order but faced resistance from APC members.

Similar confrontations spread across the state:

  • In Osogbo, a clash ensued when Governor Ademola Adeleke’s aide, Muniru Raji, mobilized PDP supporters to oppose APC’s takeover of the council secretariat, resulting in gunfire and one injury.
  • In Ife Central, PDP protests against APC’s council resumption caused heavy gridlock along the Ibadan/Ikire expressway.
  • Obokun council remained tense, with both parties facing off outside a locked council building.
  • In Irewole, PDP members blocked APC from entering the council offices.

Prominent APC figures, including former Speaker Timothy Owoeye and ex-lawmaker Babatunde Komolafe, led council takeovers in Ilesa East and Atakunmosa West, respectively. Meanwhile, heavy security, supervised by Rural Development Commissioner Gani Olaoluwa, guarded the Olorunda secretariat amid a PDP demonstration.

The clashes underscore rising political tensions between the APC and PDP, escalating state-wide unrest over council leadership disputes.
