VP Shettima Condemns Niger Tanker Explosion, Assures of Federal Government’s Preventive Measures

Vice President Kashim Shettima has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic tanker explosion at Dikko Junction, Niger State, which claimed several lives and left many others injured.

In a statement by his spokesperson, Stanley Nkwocha, the Vice President extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, as well as the government and people of Niger State. He reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to preventing such tragic incidents in the future.

This follows President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive for immediate medical assistance to survivors and the implementation of stricter safety protocols along major highways.

The explosion occurred when a fuel-laden tanker traveling from Kaduna to Gwagwalada overturned at Dikko Junction, sparking a devastating fire.

In response to the tragedy, the federal government has announced a comprehensive review of transportation safety measures. Additionally, the National Orientation Agency has been tasked with launching a nationwide awareness campaign to educate citizens about the dangers of approaching accident scenes involving fuel tankers.

The Vice President’s statement underscores the administration’s determination to enhance safety measures and ensure the welfare of all Nigerians.
