VP Shettima Condoles Borno, Vows Justice After Boko Haram Massacre in Darajamal

Vice President Kashim Shettima has expressed deep condolences to families affected by last week’s Boko Haram attack on Darajamal community, Bama Local Government Area of Borno State, assuring that the Federal Government will ensure justice is served.

The Vice President, in a statement issued on Monday by his spokesman, Stanley Nkwocha, said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had directed the armed forces to immediately review security operations nationwide, including the deployment of advanced military hardware and surveillance equipment.

“I extend my heartfelt condolences to Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, the people of Borno State, and the Nigerian military over the tragic loss of our compatriots,” Shettima said. “These deaths have left the entire nation in collective grief, but we are confident that justice will be served for the bereaved families.”

Shettima reaffirmed his confidence in the armed forces’ capacity to overcome the insurgency, noting that President Tinubu had approved the procurement of additional drones while mandating security agencies to intensify and adapt their strategies.

He also highlighted the Federal Government’s consideration of establishing state police, stressing that some security challenges require locally rooted forces with cultural awareness and grassroots networks.

At least 63 people, including five soldiers, were killed when Boko Haram insurgents stormed Darajamal around 10 p.m. on Friday. The attackers, who arrived on motorcycles, opened fire on residents and torched homes, shops, and vehicles. Survivors said the assault lasted several hours before reinforcements arrived.
