The Super Falcons of Nigeria will take on the Amazons of Benin Republic on Tuesday in the return leg of their 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) final qualifying round at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Nigeria, the 10-time African champions, head into the match with a 2–0 lead from the first leg in Cotonou last Friday, courtesy of goals from Chinwendu Ihezuo and Esther Okoronkwo.
The Falcons were dominant throughout that encounter, controlling possession and limiting Benin to few scoring chances, thanks to goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie’s fine performance and a few lucky deflections off the crossbar.
After spending nearly a week in camp in Lome, Togo, where they prepared for the first leg, the team returned to Nigeria on Saturday and had their first training session in Abeokuta on Sunday.
Despite their advantage, head coach Justin Madugu has cautioned his players against complacency.
“We expect a tough match from the Beninoise, but we are fully prepared to give our best and secure qualification for the 2026 WAFCON. Our focus is also on building momentum toward the 2027 World Cup in Brazil,” Madugu said.
He commended the Benin team, which includes several players based in Europe and North Africa, for their spirited effort in the first leg, adding that no team can be underestimated in modern women’s football.
For the lineup, Nnadozie is expected to remain in goal, with Michelle Alozie, Osinachi Ohale, Tosin Demehin, and Ashley Plumptre anchoring the defence.
In midfield, captain Rasheedat Ajibade will lead the charge alongside Deborah Abiodun and Taiwo Afolabi, while Ihezuo, Okoronkwo, and Folashade Ijamilusi are likely to spearhead the attack.
