Soyinka spoke about his life's experiences and his decision to become a writer to correct societal anomalies.
Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun announced scholarships and laptops for nine top students in an essay competition held to honor Soyinka's birthday. Abiodun praised Soyinka's lifelong commitment to education and cultural exchange, emphasizing the importance of engaging youth for national progress.

Soyinka also addressed his historical actions and criticized Nigerians for blaming societal issues on external factors without self-examination. The Cultural Exchange Programme, celebrating its 14th year, featured essays, advocacy, and performing arts, highlighting themes of good governance and nation-building. The top essayists were Alabi Oluwanifemi, Okoye Collins John, and Adebusi Adeoluwa, showcasing the students' engagement with national and international issues.
