Yayari Mohammed, the newly appointed factional acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has pledged to restore hope and unity within the party. In a statement titled “Acceptance of Appointment as Acting National Chairman,” Mohammed promised to rebuild confidence among party members and strengthen the National Working Committee (NWC).
He expressed gratitude to the NWC and party members for their commitment to reviving the PDP as a strong political force, emphasizing his intention to be guided by the party’s constitution. Mohammed assured fairness to all members, regardless of their status or position, and committed to addressing internal conflicts that have weakened the party.
Mohammed acknowledged that personal and political interests among some leaders have affected the PDP’s ability to serve as a strong opposition. He emphasized his goal to reinstate the party’s credibility, starting with convening a long-overdue National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on October 24, 2024.
In his final remarks, Mohammed urged the North-Central zone of the PDP to submit a nominee for the substantive national chairman position, as the region is entitled to replace the former chairman, Sen. Iyorchia Ayu, in accordance with the party’s constitution.
