The Zamfara State Police Command has strongly condemned the killing of one of its officers, SP Halliru Liman, who was reportedly shot and killed by military personnel. The command has called for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident to ensure that those responsible are held accountable.
In a statement issued on Thursday by the command’s spokesperson, ASP Yazid Abubakar, the police expressed deep concern over the "senseless killing" of SP Liman, who was the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of the Wasagu Division in Kebbi State until his death.
According to the statement, SP Liman was on his way to Birnin Kebbi in Kebbi State to attend a meeting when he was stopped by military personnel at Danmarke area in Bukkuyum Local Government Area of Zamfara. Despite identifying himself as a police officer, he was allegedly shot in the head by the leader of the military personnel, identified as Hassan, resulting in his instant death.
Abubakar described the incident as a shocking display of aggression and a violation of the rules of engagement and the principles of inter-agency cooperation. He urged relevant authorities to act swiftly to investigate the incident and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
"The circumstances surrounding this heinous crime are alarming and unacceptable," Abubakar stated. "SP Liman was brutally murdered by military personnel led by one Hassan, attached to OPHD Sector 6, Danmarke area of Bukkuyum, Zamfara State. We condemn this unprovoked attack in the strongest possible terms."
The statement further emphasized the need for the police and military to work together to maintain peace and security, rather than engage in actions that could undermine public trust. The Zamfara Police Command extended its deepest condolences to the family and colleagues of SP Halliru Liman and assured them that all efforts would be made to ensure justice is served.
The incident has raised concerns about inter-agency relations, with calls for improved cooperation between security agencies to prevent such tragedies in the future. The police command’s demand for a thorough investigation reflects the gravity of the situation and the need for accountability in maintaining the rule of law.
