Police Deploy Extra Security Nationwide Ahead of 2026 UTME

The Nigeria Police Force has assured candidates and parents of adequate security ahead of the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), scheduled to begin on Thursday, April 16.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, dismissed reports suggesting threats to candidates’ safety at some examination centres, particularly in parts of North Central Nigeria, describing them as baseless.

According to him, although the police do not act on rumours, public concerns about safety have been taken seriously, especially as they relate to the education and wellbeing of students.

To ensure a smooth and secure examination process, the police said additional security measures have been put in place across the country. These include increased patrols, perimeter surveillance, and the deployment of rapid response teams to strategic locations around examination centres.

The police also confirmed ongoing collaboration with other security agencies to monitor any potential threats and respond swiftly where necessary.

Authorities warned that anyone attempting to disrupt the examination process would be identified and dealt with according to the law.

Candidates were advised to arrive early at their centres, follow all examination guidelines, and report any suspicious activity to security personnel on ground.

The police also cautioned the public against spreading unverified information, urging Nigerians to rely only on official updates from security agencies and the examination body.

The UTME is expected to run from April 16 to April 25, 2026, across designated centres nationwide.
