Residents of Oke Egan in the Ilogbo-Eremi area of Badagry, Lagos State, were left in shock on Friday after the body of an elderly woman, identified as Victoria Adegoke, was discovered in a nearby bush.
According to residents, the woman, believed to be in her 60s, was found naked with signs suggesting she may have been raped and strangled before her body was dumped at the scene.
Photographs obtained from the area reportedly showed marks on her hands, raising suspicions that she may have been tied up by her attackers.
A community leader, who spoke anonymously due to the sensitive nature of the incident, said the body was discovered around 6:10 a.m. on Friday.
He explained that the deceased had attended a programme at The Joy of Christ Ministry, popularly known as Ayo Jesu Church, before the incident occurred.
According to him, Adegoke had stayed with a relative who lives close to the church after the programme ended. She was said to have been attacked while returning home in the early hours of the morning.
“The suspects reportedly removed her clothes and underwear, strangled her and took away her phone. Her Bible and ATM card were later found at the scene,” the source said.

Another resident, identified simply as Adeola, described the killing as heartbreaking, especially considering the victim’s age.
“She was an elderly woman, likely between 65 and 68 years old. People passing by found her body inside the bush and alerted the police. It is painful that someone of her age could be treated in such a cruel manner,” he said.
Residents also described the area where the incident occurred as a hotspot for violent crimes, noting that similar attacks had been recorded there in the past.
One community member said the area, located near the Lagos-Ogun boundary, has become increasingly unsafe.
“This is not the first time something like this has happened here. Cases of robbery and violent attacks are common around this area,” the resident said.
As of the time of filing this report, the Lagos State Police Command had yet to officially comment on the incident. Calls and messages sent to the command’s spokesperson were not responded to.
