Soldiers destroy terrorists’ boats, kill over 30 near Borno waterways

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have recorded a major breakthrough in the fight against insurgency, neutralising more than 30 terrorists and destroying several boats during an overnight operation in Borno State.

The offensive, which took place between Tuesday night and early Wednesday, targeted insurgent activities along the Lake Chad waterways around the Kaniram Island axis.

In a statement, the Media Information Officer of the Northeast Joint Task Force, Lt. Col. Sani Uba, said the operation was driven by credible intelligence and supported by coordinated air strikes.

According to him, surveillance missions confirmed the presence of over 30 boats being used by ISWAP fighters to coordinate movement and resupply operations in the area. After careful target identification, air assets carried out precision strikes in line with operational rules.

The initial strike destroyed several boats, effectively crippling the group’s logistics network and limiting their ability to move and sustain operations.

Follow-up strikes were then launched on fleeing fighters who attempted to regroup in nearby vegetation. These additional operations led to the neutralisation of dozens of insurgents, while others were seen retreating in disarray.

Uba noted that the strikes significantly disrupted the terrorists’ command structure and operational coordination.

In a separate but related operation in the Sambisa Forest area, troops also carried out precision strikes at Sowolwolo, destroying three gun trucks and eliminating more fighters.

Battle damage assessments and intelligence reports indicated heavy losses on the side of the insurgents, including evidence of mass burials, particularly in the Mallam Fatori axis.

Ground troops have since moved in to consolidate gains, secure surrounding areas, and prevent any regrouping by fleeing elements.

The military high command commended the troops for their performance, urging them to maintain the momentum as operations continue across the region.

Operation Hadin Kai reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining pressure on terrorist groups until they are completely dismantled.
