Edun, Dangiwa Resigned Before Cabinet Reshuffle — Presidency

The Presidency has clarified that former Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and former Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, stepped down from their positions voluntarily before their replacements were announced.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said both ministers independently submitted their resignation letters ahead of the Federal Executive Council changes.

According to the Presidency, Edun—who recently turned 70 and has reportedly been dealing with health concerns—resigned on his birthday. In his letter, he expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the opportunity to serve.

“It has been a pleasure and privilege to serve your administration and the Renewed Hope Agenda,” Edun wrote.

He added that under Tinubu’s leadership, Nigeria had become “stronger, more resilient and more internationally respected,” while wishing the administration continued success.

The statement also revealed that Edun paid a final visit to the President at the State House on Tuesday, where they held a private meeting before his departure from office.

Similarly, Dangiwa was said to have resigned voluntarily, also thanking the President for the opportunity to contribute to national development through his role in the cabinet.

President Tinubu, according to the statement, commended both former ministers for their contributions, particularly in advancing economic and housing reforms, describing their service as impactful.

Following the changes, the President has directed the new Minister of Finance, Taiwo Oyedele, to build on existing reforms and drive fiscal policies with renewed focus and innovation.

The Presidency further disclosed that a nominee for the Housing and Urban Development ministry, Muttaqha Rabe Darma, will soon be forwarded to the Senate for confirmation.

The clarification comes after the announcement of a minor cabinet reshuffle within the Federal Executive Council.
