Teacher Killed, Students Abducted in Fresh School Attack in Borno

A teacher has been killed and dozens of students abducted following an attack on Government Day Secondary School in Lassa, Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.

The incident occurred on Monday morning in the border community, which shares boundaries with Adamawa State.

The Special Adviser to the Adamawa State Governor on Media and Strategy, Solomon Kwamagar, who is from Lassa, confirmed the attack.

According to him, the gunmen rode into the community on motorcycles through the busy Lassa market before heading to the secondary school.

"They came through the market on motorcycles and stormed Government Day Secondary School in Lassa. They shot and killed one teacher before taking away the students who were in their classrooms," he said.

Kwamagar explained that Lassa is largely populated by the Margi ethnic group, whose people live in both Borno and Adamawa states.

He added that efforts were ongoing to determine the exact number of students and teachers taken away during the attack.

"I am still making contacts to confirm the total number of those kidnapped from the school," he said.

Attempts to reach the spokesperson of the Adamawa State Police Command, SP Suleiman Nguroje, for comments were unsuccessful as his phone was switched off.
