The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has finalized plans to relocate Abuja's largest mechanic village, Apo Mechanic Village, to a permanent site. This decision comes 25 years after the idea was first proposed by the FCT Administration. Wike dismissed rumors of an eviction deadline, emphasizing no such directive exists and warning officials against nepotism in shop allocations.
Thousands of auto technicians, spare parts dealers, and other service providers will move from their current location to a larger site in the Wasa district, a 15-minute drive away. Inaugurating a 19-member technical committee for the relocation, the minister, represented by Chief Felix Obuah of the Abuja Metropolitan Management Agency (AMMC), assured that the new site would offer better facilities and prevent sudden demolitions, paving the way for road expansion.

Obuah outlined the committee's tasks, including enumerating eligible individuals, preparing the relocation site, handling compensation, and establishing clear demarcations. He stressed that the relocation would not be a quick process but promised it would be completed within three months, ensuring a smooth transition for all involved.
The committee, comprising various technical teams, aims to prevent favoritism and ensure fair allocation of shops. Obuah reassured the public that the move would restore hope to those who feared losing their workspace and reaffirmed the government's commitment to enhancing Abuja's status as Nigeria's capital.
