The African Democratic Congress in Osun State on Saturday conducted its state congress, producing a new set of executives to steer the party ahead of the upcoming governorship election.
The congress, held in Osogbo, brought together delegates from all 30 local government areas of the state and was conducted under tight security, with personnel of the police and the Department of State Services present at the venue.
The exercise was supervised by the chairman of the Osun ADC Congress Committee, Mudashiru Akinlabi.
At the end of the process, Issa Adesiji, a former chairman of Ilesa West Local Government, emerged as the state chairman, while Lani Baderinwa was elected as the party’s state secretary through a consensus arrangement.
Other members of the new executive include Adepeju Adigun (Treasurer), Funmilade Oyebode (Women Leader), Ademola Owoade (Youth Leader), and Oluwaseun Abosede (Publicity Secretary), among others.
In his acceptance speech, Adesiji urged party leaders and members to unite and prepare for the August 15 governorship election, stressing that victory must be the party’s top priority.

He described the task ahead as demanding, noting that the party is rebuilding from a weak position but must mobilise effectively to secure a win at the polls.
Adesiji also called on stakeholders and supporters to rally behind the new leadership in the interest of the state.
The party’s governorship candidate, Najeem Salaam, who attended the congress alongside his running mate, Yemisi Agiri, assured residents that an ADC-led government would prioritise inclusive development.
Salaam highlighted his experience, including his tenure as Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, and promised a governance style that would reflect the needs and interests of all groups across the state.
