Amotekun Enhances Security Amid ISWAP, Boko Haram Threats in Osun

The Osun Security Network, codenamed Amotekun, has intensified security efforts in response to reports of suspected ISWAP and Boko Haram infiltration in Ilesa. The security outfit has adopted digital surveillance and introduced a toll-free emergency line, 293, to assist residents in reporting suspicious activities and emergencies.

Recruitment Drive

Speaking at the Osun NUJ Correspondents’ Chapel’s News Point program, the Corps Commandant, Dr. Adekunle Omoyele, announced the recruitment of 1,000 additional personnel to complement the current 320 operatives across the state.

“We are taking proactive measures to ensure the security of lives and property in Osun. The recruitment drive will bolster our capacity to tackle emerging security challenges,” Omoyele stated.

Vigilance Against Criminal Activities

Dr. Omoyele highlighted concerns about foreigners arriving via trucks and vehicles at the Ilesa expressway, often engaging in menial jobs like gold mining. However, he reassured residents, stating, “We are on red alert. Criminal elements must stay away from our state. Osun residents should not panic because we are ahead of them.”

Advanced Security Measures

Amotekun has deployed digital surveillance technology to enhance crime monitoring across the state. Residents are encouraged to use the toll-free 293 emergency line for immediate assistance or to provide security tips.

Governor Ademola Adeleke has approved the recruitment initiative, which begins next month, as part of a broader strategy to safeguard Osun residents and prevent any infiltration by terrorist elements.
