The All Progressives Congress has announced May 16 and May 23, 2026, as the dates for its presidential and governorship primary elections ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, disclosed this on Monday, noting that the timetable was approved and signed by the National Organising Secretary, Sulaiman Argungu.
According to the schedule, presidential aspirants will pay N100 million for expression of interest and nomination forms, while governorship aspirants are to pay N50 million. Senate aspirants will pay N20 million, and those seeking seats in the House of Representatives will pay N10 million. State House of Assembly aspirants are expected to pay N6 million.
The Independent National Electoral Commission has already fixed January 16, 2027, for the Presidential and National Assembly elections, while governorship and state assembly polls will hold on February 6, 2027.
INEC also stated that party primaries and dispute resolution processes are to be conducted between April 23 and May 30, 2026. Campaigns for national elections will begin on August 19, while governorship campaigns will commence on September 9.
The APC timetable further shows that the sale of forms will run from April 25 to May 2 at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja, with submission closing on May 4. Screening for presidential aspirants is scheduled for May 9, while other categories will be screened between May 6 and May 8.
Primary elections for various positions have also been outlined: House of Representatives primaries will hold on May 18, Senate on May 20, and State House of Assembly on May 21.
The party added that female aspirants, youths, and persons with disabilities will enjoy concessions, paying only for the expression of interest form and 50 per cent of the nomination fees.
Morka assured members that the party remains committed to transparency and internal democracy throughout the process.
Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party has also moved forward with its preparations, adopting a timetable for its 2027 election activities during its 108th National Executive Committee meeting in Abuja.

The party, which has been dealing with internal divisions involving key figures such as Nyesom Wike and other factions, said it has overcome its recent crisis and is now focused on unity and electoral readiness.
In a communiqué, PDP leaders expressed confidence in the party’s structure and directed all organs to adhere strictly to guidelines for transparent primaries, while also emphasising reconciliation among members.
At the same time, the African Democratic Congress revealed plans to adopt a consensus approach in selecting its presidential candidate. Its spokesperson, Bolaji Abdullahi, said the strategy is aimed at reducing costs and strengthening internal cohesion ahead of the elections.
With major parties now unveiling their roadmaps, political activities are expected to intensify nationwide as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.
