ICPC Debunks Viral ₦50bn Bribery Video, Warns Against Disinformation

ICPC

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission has dismissed as false a viral video alleging a ₦50 billion bribery scandal, describing it as fabricated and partly generated using artificial intelligence to mislead the public.

In a statement issued on Monday, the commission said the widely circulated video has no connection to the agency and does not reflect any ongoing investigation.

According to the commission’s spokesperson, J. Okor Odey, the content of the video—including images, names, and claims—was entirely manufactured.

“The images, names, and content in the video are fabricated and, in some instances, AI-generated, designed solely to mislead unsuspecting members of the public,” he said.

The anti-corruption body clarified that it has not released any report or statement supporting the allegations contained in the video, including claims involving any Senior Advocate of Nigeria, legal practitioners, or judicial officers.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the ICPC is not investigating any individual, SAN, group of lawyers, or judicial officer in connection with the fictitious ₦50 billion bribe referenced in the video. No such case, transaction, or investigation exists within the records of the commission,” the statement added.

The commission also issued a strong warning to those responsible for creating and sharing the video, urging them to stop immediately or face legal consequences.

It further advised the public to disregard the misleading content and rely only on official ICPC communication channels for accurate information, reaffirming its commitment to credible and law-based investigations.
