Aregbesola Says ADC Targets 14 Million Members Nationwide

The National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rauf Aregbesola, has revealed that the party is aiming to grow its membership to at least 14 million registered members across Nigeria as part of a major expansion plan.

Aregbesola made this known on Tuesday during a South-West stakeholders’ meeting held at Kakanfo Inn, Ring Road, Ibadan, Oyo State.

The former Osun State governor said the party has begun a deliberate mobilisation drive to attract Nigerians who are unhappy with the current political system and are willing to work for meaningful change.

“Our goal is to bring in Nigerians who are ready to work for genuine progress. This time, we want to separate the wheat from the chaff by ensuring that only committed and credible people join the party,” he said.

He described the membership target as ambitious but achievable, stressing that the party is ready to commit resources to building a strong grassroots structure.

“It will be good for us to grow our membership strength to at least 14 million. That is the level of political participation and structure we are building,” Aregbesola added.

He also stated that the ADC was not created to fight individuals or rival political parties, but to provide Nigerians with a credible and service-driven alternative.

“We are not fighting anyone. Our mission is to call people into service… to build a credible political alternative for Nigerians,” he said.

As part of efforts to strengthen the party in the South-West, Aregbesola directed newly inaugurated leaders to set up functional party structures in all states in the region within two weeks.

He also announced plans to establish a regional political platform known as the Grand Assembly of Genuine Progressives, which will include 100 leaders from each of the six South-West states and will be inaugurated in Ibadan.

According to him, the assembly will accommodate youths, women and representatives from all local governments to promote inclusive progressive politics in the region.

In his remarks, the newly inaugurated National Vice Chairman (South-West), Akinbowale Omole, assured members that the new zonal executive is ready to reposition the party across Yorubaland.

“Be rest assured that we understand what is wrong in Yorubaland and we are ready to fix it. Anyone who wants to join ADC must also be ready to work,” Omole said.

The meeting also featured the inauguration of several national and zonal officers from the South-West.
