The Borno State Police Command has issued a stern warning to residents, advising against participation in the planned nationwide protest. This warning comes in light of the ongoing state of emergency on insecurity in Borno, which automatically bans protests or any form of mass action.
In a press statement signed by Assistant Superintendent of Police Nahum Daso, on behalf of Commissioner of Police Yusufu Mohammed, the police highlighted their awareness of attempts by "disgruntled unpatriotic individuals" mobilizing youths for a mass protest tagged #EndbadgovernmentinNigeria2024 via social media and other channels.
The statement acknowledged the fundamental human rights to peaceful procession but cautioned that protests are often hijacked by individuals with ulterior motives. It emphasized that due to the state of emergency, the ban on public processions in Borno remains in effect, and the police, in collaboration with other security agencies, are prepared to prevent any acts of lawlessness.

Organizers and sponsors of the protest were urged to reconsider their plans, as any attempt to disrupt the peace or damage critical infrastructure would be treated as an act of terrorism. The police also appealed to parents and guardians to prevent their wards from being used to destabilize the state, encouraging the public to stay law-abiding and report any suspicious activities.
The scheduled nationwide protest is set to begin on August 1, 2024. Both the Federal Government and the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, along with the military, have issued warnings against the protest.
