Delta Governor Sheriff Oborevwori Defects to APC, Stirs Political Storm Ahead of 2027 Elections

In a surprising political move, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The announcement came on Wednesday following a closed-door meeting at the Government House in Asaba, with Governor Oborevwori's Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, confirming the development in a phone conversation with Vanguard.

Oborevwori’s decision to join the APC marks a significant shift in the state’s political landscape. The Governor, who triumphed in the 2023 gubernatorial election under the PDP banner, explained that his move was the result of extensive consultations with key political stakeholders, and was ultimately made in the best interest of Delta State’s long-term development.

Political analysts are already predicting that the realignment will have far-reaching implications, particularly with the 2027 general elections fast approaching. Oborevwori’s defection is being seen as a strategic maneuver that could reshape the political dynamics within the state and possibly influence future power structures in the region.
