President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s determination to tackle insecurity across the country, declaring that Nigeria will never surrender to terrorism, banditry, or any form of criminal intimidation.
The President’s message was delivered on Sunday by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, during the National Interdenominational Church Service held at the National Christian Centre in Abuja as part of activities marking the 2026 Democracy Day celebration.
Tinubu stressed that protecting the lives and property of Nigerians remains the Federal Government’s foremost responsibility, noting that recent incidents of kidnappings and attacks have highlighted the need for stronger and sustained security operations.
According to him, security agencies are receiving the necessary support and resources to strengthen their operations and ensure the safe return of all Nigerians currently in captivity.
“The safety of Nigerians remains a top priority of the Federal Government. Recent attacks and abductions remind us that there is still much work to be done. The safe return of all persons in captivity remains a national priority,” the President stated.
He added that the government remains committed to preserving Nigeria’s territorial integrity and securing communities across the country.
Tinubu also acknowledged the economic challenges facing many Nigerians, including rising living costs, insecurity, displacement, and kidnappings. He assured citizens that his administration is fully aware of these difficulties and is working towards lasting solutions.

“The government is sensitive to these challenges, shares in the pains of Nigerians, and has heard their concerns,” he said.
With political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections beginning to gather momentum, the President urged Nigerians to reject violence, hate speech, and divisive politics. He warned that democracy should not be turned into a battleground for conflict and urged citizens to embrace peace and tolerance.
He particularly advised young Nigerians against allowing themselves to be used for political violence, misinformation, or criminal activities.
“Do not rent out your conscience for money, drugs, political patronage, or online applause. Your future is worth more than any politician’s temporary interest,” he cautioned.
The President further called on religious leaders, traditional rulers, civil society organisations, families, and the media to continue promoting national unity and peaceful coexistence.
Tinubu also praised members of the Armed Forces and other security agencies for their sacrifices in defending the country and sustaining democratic governance.
As Nigeria prepares to celebrate 27 years of uninterrupted democratic rule on June 12, the President urged citizens to honour the sacrifices of pro-democracy heroes by working together to build a safer, more united, and prosperous nation.
