The Edo State Working Committee (SWC) of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has expelled former Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu for alleged anti-party activities. The SWC also expelled South-South Vice Chairman Dan Orbih and upheld the expulsion of ex-House of Representatives member Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama. The decisions were made at an SWC meeting in Benin, attended by Chairman Tony Aziegbemi and seven other members, including Tony Anenih Jr. who joined virtually.
Chairman Aziegbemi stated that the expulsions were due to actions demonstrating a lack of loyalty to the PDP. Shaibu was accused of donating vehicles to the APC and disrespecting party leaders, while Ogbeide-Ihama allegedly provided a building for APC campaign use. Orbih was expelled for encouraging PDP members to join the opposition and accepting an appointment without consulting the party.

The expulsion of Ogbeide-Ihama sparked controversy as the PDP leadership in Oredo Local Government Area declared it null and void. Local chairman Oduwa Igbinosun stated that the action was taken by an unauthorized group. Ward 2 executives also disowned the expulsion, asserting Ogbeide-Ihama’s prominent and continued membership in the party.
Despite the internal conflicts, the Edo PDP remains focused on winning the upcoming September 21 governorship election. Aziegbemi emphasized that the party is well-positioned for victory, working with stakeholders to ensure success at the polls.
