Ekiti gov hails Tinubu for appointing Oluyede as CDS

Oyebanji Hails Tinubu Over Appointment of Oluyede as Chief of Defence Staff

Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has praised President Bola Tinubu for appointing General Olufemi Oluyede as Nigeria’s new Chief of Defence Staff, describing the move as a proud moment for Ekiti people and a recognition of excellence.

Oluyede, a native of Ikere-Ekiti, was until his promotion the Chief of Army Staff. His elevation to the top of the nation’s military command, Oyebanji said, is both a reward for hard work and a reflection of President Tinubu’s commitment to merit and national service.

In a statement issued in Ado-Ekiti by his Chief Press Secretary, Yinka Oyebode, the governor expressed deep gratitude to the President, saying the appointment acknowledges “the exemplary qualities of the Ikere-Ekiti-born General.”

“The Government and people of Ekiti State are grateful to President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu for General Oluyede’s appointment. We wish him success in his new assignment and pledge our full support for him,” the statement read.

Oyebanji hailed the new Defence Chief as a true representation of the Ekiti spirit — service, honour, and excellence — noting that Oluyede’s rise through the ranks was marked by integrity, loyalty, and professionalism.

“General Oluyede epitomises the core values of courage, integrity, and loyalty for which Ekitis are known. He possesses the professionalism and leadership capacity to excel in his new role,” the governor said.

Expressing confidence in Oluyede’s ability to deliver, Oyebanji described him as a “gallant officer” whose wealth of experience will be invaluable to the country’s defence at a crucial time.

“We are confident that he will leverage his vast experience to chart a new course for the military and strengthen national security,” he added.

Oyebanji’s message carried a mix of pride and gratitude — pride in the elevation of an illustrious Ekiti son, and gratitude to President Tinubu for what he described as a “well-deserved appointment that reaffirms the values of competence and patriotism.”

With this appointment, Ekiti joins the rest of the nation in celebrating one of its own at the helm of Nigeria’s defence establishment — a development the governor said “brings honour not only to General Oluyede but to the entire state.”
