In a bid to alleviate the plight of vulnerable households, the Federal Government has dispatched 20,078 bags of garri and maize to Anambra State. The distribution, carried out secretly over the weekend by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in collaboration with the State Government, aimed to provide relief amidst economic hardships.
Out of the total, 16,130 bags were maize, while 3,948 bags were garri, all sourced from the National Strategic Reserve. The items were handed over to the Anambra State Government for distribution to the most vulnerable individuals across the state.
The distribution took place at the Anambra State Emergency Management Agency in Awka, with the first batch benefiting residents of Awka North and South, Dunukofia, and Njikoka. Initially, there were plans to share the items with local government Transition Committee Chairmen, but Governor Chukwuma Soludo intervened, insisting on direct distribution to the 21 Local Government Areas to ensure fairness.
Governor Soludo emphasized the importance of the distribution, especially in the face of skyrocketing prices of goods. He assured that the State Government's committee would ensure the fair and thorough distribution of the commodities to those most in need. Chief Paul Odenigbo, the Executive Secretary of Anambra State Emergency Management Agency, confirmed the readiness of the distribution committees in each local government area to carry out the exercise seamlessly.
