Four Vehicles, Container Destroyed as Fire Guts Mechanic Workshop in Ibadan

A fire outbreak has destroyed four vehicles and a container at a mechanic workshop located on Togunde Street in the Akingbade area along Old Ife Road, Egbeda Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The incident occurred around 9:16 p.m. on Saturday, according to the Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency and Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Fire Services Agency, Moroof Akinwande.

He disclosed that the agency received a distress call from a resident, identified as Mr Damola, who reported the fire at the workshop.

Akinwande said firefighters, led by Chief Fire Superintendent Adekola, quickly responded to the emergency and found four vehicles and a container already engulfed in flames, with thick smoke spreading across the area.

He explained that the swift intervention of the fire service prevented the blaze from spreading to nearby buildings and properties.

According to preliminary findings, the fire was caused by sparks from an engine compartment, which ignited combustible materials within the workshop.

“No casualty was recorded, and the operation was carried out in collaboration with the Federal Fire Service, Ibadan Command,” Akinwande said.

He urged residents and vehicle owners to pay more attention to fire safety measures, stressing the need for workshops and vehicles to be equipped with fire extinguishers to help contain outbreaks before they escalate.

The latest incident adds to a series of fire outbreaks recorded in Ibadan in recent months. In September 2025, a fire razed 14 shops at Ogundipe Market in Ibadan North Local Government Area, while another outbreak in December destroyed eight shops near the Sango Police Divisional Headquarters.
