Suspected armed herders have reportedly killed several people in a fresh attack on Tse Ameen community in Mbapa Council Ward, Gwer West Local Government Area of Benue State.
Residents said the attackers invaded the quiet community on Saturday night, leaving destruction and fear in their wake.
A local source, who asked not to be named, told journalists on Monday that bodies were recovered the following day, while others remain unaccounted for.
“Five corpses, including three males and two females, were recovered on Sunday,” the source said, adding that search efforts were still ongoing for missing persons.
However, the Benue State Police Command gave a slightly different figure, confirming that four bodies had been recovered from the scene.
“The incident is confirmed. Four dead bodies were recovered,” the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Udeme Edet, said in a telephone interview.

The attack has further heightened tension in the area, which has witnessed repeated incidents of violence in recent times.
Reacting to the growing insecurity, Governor Hyacinth Alia, during a separate engagement at the Government House on Sunday, sympathised with affected communities and urged security agencies to track down those responsible.
He called for stronger action to prevent further attacks and restore calm to troubled areas of the state.
Security forces are yet to release further details on arrests or ongoing investigations related to the incident.
