Osinbajo Inaugurates Key Road and Hospital Projects in Bayelsa, Hails Diri’s Infrastructure Drive

Former Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, on Monday commissioned the Agbura–Oxbow Lake Road and the Oporoma Referral Hospital in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, describing the projects as transformative and impactful for the people of the state.

Osinbajo, who had earlier visited the state in 2022 to flag off the 630-metre Angiama–Oporoma Bridge, returned to witness what he described as the “fulfilment of a promise” amid visible infrastructural development in the riverine communities.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, he praised Governor Douye Diri for what he called a consistent commitment to delivering projects that improve connectivity and open up remote areas.

According to him, the newly commissioned road does not only serve local communities but also links major government institutions in Yenagoa, including the NCDMB Towers, the Federal Secretariat, and the CBN office.

“This project is very special in many ways,” Osinbajo said. “It opens up Agbura, Swali, and several other communities, and also connects important economic and historical locations like Oloibiri and the Federal University in Otueke.”

He noted that the road also has economic and historical significance, particularly as it improves access to areas linked to Nigeria’s oil discovery history.

“I am happy and honoured to be here to commission this important road,” he added.

Earlier, Governor Diri recalled Osinbajo’s role in flagging off the bridge project in 2022, noting that the state had taken bold steps in opening up its difficult terrain through strategic infrastructure development.

He explained that the projects had already begun creating economic opportunities, especially for young people who were engaged during the construction phase.

According to him, improved road connectivity has made it easier to access more riverine communities and boosted transportation across the Yenagoa–Oporoma–Ukubie axis.

Diri also expressed appreciation for Osinbajo’s continued interest in the project, noting that the completion of the bridge and related infrastructure marks a significant milestone for Bayelsa State.
