Gunmen Assassinate DELSU Professor Emeka Chukwuma in Asaba

Prof. Emeka Chukwuma, a respected lecturer at Delta State University, Abraka, was tragically killed by gunmen at his residence in Umueji, Asaba, Delta State, on Friday night.

The 56-year-old academic, known for routinely returning to his hometown in Asaba for weekend visits, was reportedly targeted in his home in the St. Bridges area. Sources revealed that Prof. Chukwuma had transferred back to the Abraka campus following the conversion of the Anwai campus to Dennis Osadebey University.

“Prof. Chukwuma came home for his usual weekend visit and was assassinated. The situation in Asaba has become alarming with the growing insecurity,” a local source lamented.

Residents of Asaba have expressed their concerns over increasing incidents of killings and kidnappings in the area, urging security agencies to intensify efforts to protect lives and property.

Confirming the incident, Delta State Police Public Relations Officer SP Bright Edafe said, “Yes, it is confirmed. The matter has been reported to the police, and we are actively investigating the incident to apprehend those responsible.”

The tragic death of Prof. Chukwuma highlights the growing insecurity in Asaba and raises urgent calls for decisive action from law enforcement to curb the wave of violence plaguing the region.
