The Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII) has issued a strong warning to politicians in Oyo State over what it described as growing acts of disrespect toward the revered Olubadan of Ibadanland.
In a statement released on Monday in Ibadan, the council’s President-General, Ajeniyi Ajewole, expressed concern over recent comments and actions by some political figures, saying they threaten the dignity of traditional institutions in the ancient city.
Ajewole stressed that the Olubadan stool remains sacred to the people of Ibadanland and must be treated with utmost respect at all times. He warned that any attempt to undermine or ridicule the institution for political gain would not be tolerated.

According to him, the Olubadan serves as a unifying figure for all indigenes and residents, regardless of political affiliation, and should never be dragged into partisan conflicts.
The council also condemned the rising trend of hostile political rhetoric, including the use of insults and curses among politicians, describing such behaviour as irresponsible and damaging to the peace of the state.
Ajewole urged political actors to show restraint and maturity, noting that disagreements should not degenerate into attacks on cultural heritage and traditional authority.
Reaffirming its stance, the council maintained that the Olubadan institution is non-partisan and remains committed to neutrality. It added that it would continue to defend the dignity, unity, and cultural heritage of Ibadanland against any form of disrespect.
