Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has announced that workers in the state have been receiving an additional N35,000 wage allowance since January. He further disclosed plans for the state government to introduce a new minimum wage scheme soon.
According to Governor Sanwo-Olu, workers who were previously earning a minimum wage of N35,000 or more now take home a salary of N70,000 or above since the beginning of the year. He emphasized the government's commitment to supporting citizens during difficult times, ensuring that they are not left to fend for themselves.
In addition to the wage increase, the governor highlighted the state government's intervention efforts to alleviate economic hardships. He mentioned plans to distribute food items to 500,000 households in the state through unions and local governments. Furthermore, Governor Sanwo-Olu discussed the 'Ounje Eko' initiative, which offers food items at discounted prices through 59 makeshift markets established across the state's 57 local government and local council development areas, operating on a Sunday-Sunday basis.
