The Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, has assured residents of the North-East region of adequate security ahead of the Eid-El-Kabir celebrations scheduled for Wednesday, May 28, 2026.
The assurance was contained in a statement issued on Monday by the Media Information Officer of Operation HADIN KAI, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba.
According to the military, comprehensive security measures have already been activated across the theatre of operations to ensure peaceful celebrations despite threats posed by remnants of Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).
The command also extended Eid-El-Kabir greetings to Muslim faithful across the North-East and wished residents a peaceful and joyful celebration.
The statement revealed that intelligence reports indicated possible attempts by insurgents to exploit the festive period by carrying out isolated attacks on civilian targets using suicide bombers and improvised explosive devices.
“Credible intelligence available to the command indicates the possibility of isolated attempts by remnant Boko Haram terrorists and Islamic State West Africa Province elements to exploit the festive period to carry out attacks against civilian targets using suicide bombers and IEDs, particularly in areas of high population concentration,” the statement said.
Operation HADIN KAI, however, assured residents that the threats had been anticipated and that necessary countermeasures were already in place.
“The Theatre Command wishes to assure the public that these threats have been thoroughly anticipated,” it added.
The military disclosed that troops had been forward-deployed to critical and vulnerable locations across all sectors within the theatre, while surveillance and intelligence assets had been fully activated to monitor activities during the festive period.
According to the statement, patrols have also been intensified, with security agencies working closely with the Civilian Joint Task Force and local vigilance groups to prevent any security breach.
Residents were urged to remain vigilant throughout the celebrations by avoiding overcrowded places where possible and immediately reporting suspicious persons, movements, or objects to security agencies.
The command further advised citizens to conduct Eid prayers and celebrations close to their homes and familiar neighbourhoods while exercising caution in busy public places such as markets, motor parks, banking halls, and prayer grounds.

The military also appealed to residents to cooperate with security personnel during patrols and screening operations and avoid spreading unverified information capable of causing panic among the public.
Traditional rulers, religious leaders, media organisations, and community stakeholders were equally called upon to support ongoing security efforts through timely sharing of credible information.
“Your cooperation with security forces remains invaluable to the success of ongoing operations,” the command stated.
Reassuring residents of the military’s readiness, Operation HADIN KAI said troops remained fully prepared and committed to denying terrorists any opportunity to disrupt the celebrations.
“The command remains resolute in its determination to deny terrorists any freedom of action and ensure that the Eid El Kabir celebrations proceed in an atmosphere of peace, safety, and dignity for all,” the statement added.
