The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has restated its directive to telecom operators to block telephone subscribers not linked to their National Identification Numbers (NIN) by February 28, 2024.

Speaking at the NCC’s Special Day at the 45th Kaduna International Trade Fair, the Executive Vice Chairman, Dr Aminu Maida, emphasized the critical national security importance of linking NINs to SIM cards.

He reaffirmed the February 28th deadline for operators to block subscribers who have not linked their NINs to their SIMs.

The NCC, as the regulator of the telecommunications sector, aims to ensure service availability, affordability, and sustainability for all consumers. To this end, it has directed telecom operators to comply with the NIN-SIM linkage directive.

Maida urged telecom firms to prioritize customer satisfaction and uphold high service delivery standards. He also highlighted the NCC's implementation of approved Harmonised Short Codes to enhance services for Nigerian telecom consumers.
