The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, has announced that the Nigerian Army will soon receive mine-resistant and ambush-protected vehicles to enhance its operations. He made this announcement during a visit to troops in Yola, Adamawa State, where he also revealed plans for the Nigerian Army Aviation to commence operations.
The COAS emphasized that these developments are part of the government's efforts to reposition the Army, noting the significant progress made in recent times. He highlighted the support received from President Bola Tinubu in this regard.
"In the next few weeks, we are expecting mine-resistant ambush-protected vehicles to enhance the conduct of our operations nationwide," said Lagbaja. Regarding the Nigerian Army Aviation, he stated that efforts are underway to have some assets operational by July this year.
Lagbaja commended the troops for their efforts in curbing insecurity, particularly in the South-South, South-East, and North Central regions. He assured that challenges in the North West and parts of the North East are being aggressively addressed.
"With the support we are getting from Mr. President, putting everything together, in the foreseeable future, I see the security situation across Nigeria improving tremendously," the COAS added.
During his visit, Lagbaja interacted with the troops to understand their living conditions and operational challenges. He assured them that their challenges would be addressed promptly and encouraged them to remain steadfast in their duties.
"I want to encourage you to be unrelenting in the discharge of your duties. Is it anti-banditry? Is it counter-terrorism? Is it normal internal security operations? Whatever task you are given, you should take it as a duty that must be discharged creditably," he said.
