The Ondo State Security Network Agency, Amotekun, has confirmed the abduction of an Anglican priest, Reverend Olowolagba, his wife, and two children along the Ise Akoko-Iboropa road in Akoko North-East Local Government Area of Ondo State. The family was reportedly kidnapped last Sunday while traveling to Ikaram.
Sources revealed that the kidnappers initially demanded a ransom of N10 million but later increased it to N75 million after the family managed to raise some funds. The victims include Reverend Olowolagba’s 16-year-old daughter, a university student, and a nine-year-old girl under their care. Their vehicle was intercepted, and they were dragged into the bush by the assailants.
Amotekun Commander Akogun Adetunji Adeleye confirmed ongoing rescue efforts in collaboration with other security agencies. However, the state police command stated that the incident had not been formally reported to any station. Meanwhile, community leader Sheik Basiru Aminu urged residents to intensify prayers for the victims' safe release.
The Bishop of Akoko Anglican Diocese, Babajide Bada, lamented the ordeal, explaining that the family was discovered missing when they failed to arrive at their destination. He appealed for urgent action to secure their release, emphasizing the devastating impact of the incident on the community.
