The Senior Pastor of House on the Rock Church, Paul Adefarasin, has turned himself in to the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters in Ikeja following the circulation of a viral video purportedly showing him holding a gun-like object during an encounter with a content creator.
This development was confirmed by the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, on Tuesday afternoon.
“No one is above the law!” Hundeyin said. “Pastor Paul Adefarasin has turned himself in and is currently being interrogated by detectives. An investigation is ongoing, and the outcome will be made public.”
The Controversial Clip
The controversy began when a video surfaced online last week, allegedly capturing the renowned cleric holding what appeared to be a metallic or firearm-like object while engaging a passerby who was recording him. The footage also showed that the pastor’s vehicle had no license plates, raising further eyebrows.
In response to the social media storm, Pastor Adefarasin issued a public denial, stating:
“You might be aware of a video circulating on social media showing me in what some have misunderstood as brandishing a firearm. I want to assure you that was certainly not a firearm, and at no point did I point such at anyone.”
Despite this clarification, pressure mounted for law enforcement to take action.
Police: Investigation Underway
According to CSP Hundeyin, detectives have launched a full-scale investigation to ascertain the nature of the object and the circumstances surrounding the encounter. The probe will also address the legality of the vehicle involved and whether any laws were violated during the incident.
“We have commenced investigation following the emergence of the video. We take such matters seriously, especially where public safety and the law are concerned,” Hundeyin added.
Public Reaction and Legal Questions
The incident has triggered widespread debate on accountability and privilege, with many Nigerians calling for equal treatment under the law, regardless of status or religious office.
Legal experts say Pastor Adefarasin could face questions on:
-
Possession or display of a weapon (if confirmed to be a real firearm)
-
Use of an unregistered vehicle
-
Possible intimidation or threat of violence
Awaiting Police Findings
As the interrogation continues, the Lagos State Police Command has urged the public to remain calm and allow due process to take its course.
All eyes are now on the outcome of the police probe and whether any charges will be brought against the high-profile pastor, known for his influence within Nigeria’s religious and political circles.
The police have promised to make the findings public, reinforcing a growing national sentiment: “no one is above the law.”
