The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has successfully raided an illegal maternity home suspected of being involved in child trafficking and unlawful medical practices, arresting one Patience Ene Jimmy, the operator of the facility. The raid, which took place in Usung Atiat, Abak Local Government Area, led to the discovery of seven pregnant women and five infants ranging from two weeks to one year old.

According to DSP Timfon John, the Police Public Relations Officer for Akwa Ibom State, the authorities uncovered evidence that the suspect had been running an illegal operation, without any legal medical authorization. During the search, police recovered a variety of medical supplies, including syringes, drip lines, herbs, and immunization records, none of which had the required legal documentation.

The pregnant women and infants have been rescued and placed under protective care while investigations continue to determine other possible collaborators and bring those responsible to justice.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, has vowed to intensify efforts in dismantling such dangerous operations that exploit vulnerable individuals. The police are committed to ensuring that justice is served and that illegal activities endangering the lives of women and children are eradicated in the state.
