The Presidency has assured Nigerians that President Bola Tinubu continues to govern the country effectively from Europe, despite being abroad for nearly two weeks. The President is expected to return to Nigeria on Monday, April 21, after the Easter holidays.
In a statement signed by Tinubu's Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, it was explained that the President, who traveled from Paris to London over the weekend, remains fully engaged in Nigeria's governance. He is in constant communication with key government officials and has issued directives to security chiefs to address emerging threats in various parts of the country.
The Presidency emphasized that the President's absence is temporary, in line with the communicated timeframe of about two weeks, and that governance continues uninterrupted under his leadership. Onanuga also urged the public to remain calm, reassuring citizens that the administration is functioning effectively during this period.
While the specific purpose of Tinubu’s stay in Paris and London was not disclosed, the statement addressed criticisms raised by the opposition, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi. Both had questioned the President's absence amid rising insecurity, particularly in Plateau and Benue states.
The statement concluded by reiterating the President’s unwavering commitment to his duties and confirmed that he will return to Abuja to resume his responsibilities following the conclusion of the Easter holiday.
