Nigeria

President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep condolences to the families of six soldiers killed in a terrorist assault on the Nigerian Army base in Sabon Gida, Damboa, Borno State, on January 4, 2025.

In a statement released Thursday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President lauded the bravery and sacrifice of the fallen soldiers, stating, “Their sacrifice in defending our nation will forever be honoured and remembered.”

He commended the Nigerian Armed Forces for their swift and decisive response, highlighting the success of retaliatory airstrikes that neutralised numerous terrorists and destroyed their assets as they fled.

“This resolute action by the Army demonstrates the capability and readiness of our military to confront and defeat threats to our nation’s security,” Tinubu said.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to eradicating terrorism and banditry, the President promised unwavering support for the armed forces, saying, “Your sacrifices and dedication do not go unnoticed, and we stand firmly behind you in this ongoing fight.”

The President called for a thorough investigation into the incident to prevent future occurrences and urged intensified military operations, especially in the Northwest, where bandits continue to terrorise communities.

He appealed to Nigerians and the media to unite in supporting the military’s efforts to restore peace and stability. “We must remain united in our resolve to support our armed forces as they work tirelessly to protect our people and secure our nation,” he said.

The dawn attack on the Sabon Gida base underscored the evolving security challenges in the region, but the military’s strong counteroffensive reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the nation.
