The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has expressed gratitude to Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, for accepting an invitation to visit Nigeria in May 2024. During their visit, they will engage with members of the Armed Forces and participate in various cultural events.
Prince Harry and Meghan are known for their work with the Invictus Games, an international multisport event that supports the rehabilitation of sick, injured, and wounded service members globally. The games also aim to raise awareness and recognition for soldiers, aiding in their rehabilitation process.
The Invictus Games have seen significant participation, with around 500 athletes from 21 nations, including Nigeria, which achieved success with gold and silver medals at its inaugural outing last year.
Brigadier General Tukur Vusau, the Acting Director of Defence Information, stated that the visit aims to strengthen Nigeria's presence in the games and explore the possibility of hosting the event in the future. The Minister of Defence, Alhaji Mohammed Abubakar Badaru, has already expressed Nigeria's readiness to host the games when the opportunity arises.
Prince Harry, 39, is scheduled to attend the 10th anniversary celebration of the Invictus Games at St. Paul's Cathedral in London on May 8. Following this event, Meghan, 42, will join him in Nigeria for their visit, as per the report.
