Protest Rocks PDP Secretariat as Rival Faction Takes Over Chairman’s Office
A protest broke out on Monday at the national secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Wadata Plaza in Abuja, as supporters of the factional acting National Chairman, Mohammed Abdulrahman, stormed the premises demanding the immediate exit of the National Working Committee (NWC) led by Umar Damagum.
The protesters, chanting solidarity songs, accused the Damagum-led leadership of mismanaging the affairs of the party and vowed to reclaim control of the secretariat on behalf of the Abdulrahman-led faction.
The development comes amid a deepening leadership crisis within the PDP. Last week, Mohammed Abdulrahman was announced as the factional acting chairman following the suspension of the party’s National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, and the National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade, for one month.
In a parallel move, a faction loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, reportedly held a separate meeting in Abuja, where they announced the suspension of the Damagum-led NWC.

Security operatives have since been deployed to Wadata Plaza to maintain order as tensions rose between both factions struggling for control of the party headquarters.
Meanwhile, Abdulrahman’s faction has reportedly taken control of the National Chairman’s office. Addressing journalists, Abdulrahman pledged to unite and reposition the PDP ahead of the next general elections.
“We are ready to work in the interest of our dear party,” he said, assuring members of his commitment to rebuild trust and restore discipline within the PDP.
