The Senate on Tuesday confirmed the nomination of Professor Melvin Damian Ayogu as a member of the Board of Directors of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
The confirmation followed the consideration and adoption of the report by the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance, and other Financial Institutions during plenary. The report was presented by the Vice Chairman of the Committee, Senator Osita Izunaso (APC – Imo West).
Senator Izunaso emphasized that the nomination of Professor Ayogu was in line with existing laws and that he possesses the expertise and qualifications for the role. He also noted that there were no petitions against Ayogu, who had been cleared by the police and other relevant security agencies, and had submitted his asset declaration slip from the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB).
Following the confirmation, Senate President Godswill Akpabio commended the Committee for their efforts and congratulated Professor Ayogu on his appointment. He encouraged him to bring value to the CBN, particularly in addressing the challenges facing the financial sector and the Nigerian economy.
