Three Police Officers Killed as Suspected Terrorists Attack Kwara Mobile Police Camp

At least three police officers have been confirmed dead, while two others sustained injuries, following an early morning attack on a Police Mobile Force (PMF) camp in Tenebo community, Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State.

The attack, which happened around 1 a.m. on Saturday, threw the agrarian community into panic as residents fled into nearby bushes to escape the heavy gunfire.

Eyewitnesses said the attackers arrived in large numbers and stormed the police camp in a coordinated surprise assault, overpowering officers on duty before opening fire.

A resident, Suleiman Issa, described the incident as terrifying.

“This ugly killing happened around 1 a.m. in Tenebo village, Kaiama. Bandits came in their large numbers and invaded the village. People were killed and some were wounded,” he said.

The Kwara State Police Command confirmed the attack through its spokesperson, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, who said the command was already gathering details on the incident.

“I regret to confirm that an attack on the PMF Camp occurred in the early hours of today. I will provide more accurate and detailed information shortly,” she said.

The latest incident adds to growing security concerns in Kaiama Local Government Area, which has witnessed repeated attacks by armed groups in recent months.

In April, suspected terrorists had overrun a joint security outpost in Kemanji, killing soldiers and vigilantes and carting away weapons and a gun truck. Earlier that same month, another attack in Nuku community left several members of a local forest guard dead, with vehicles and facilities destroyed.

In February, the area also suffered one of its deadliest attacks, where over 200 people were reportedly killed and many others abducted, including women and children.

The latest assault has once again raised fears among residents over the worsening security situation in parts of northern Kwara communities.
