Trump Proposes Renaming ICE to “NICE” to Frustrate Critics

United States President Donald Trump has suggested changing the name of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency (ICE) to “NICE” by adding the letter “N,” which he said would stand for “National.”

Trump made the proposal in a post on his official X account on Saturday, arguing that the new name would make it difficult for critics in the media and the Democratic Party to attack the agency.

According to him, ICE officers are “great patriots” who perform their duties under intense hostility, much of which he blamed on what he described as “fake news” and Democrats.

“Much of this hostility is caused by the Democrats and the Fake News,” Trump wrote. “I have had a strong feeling for quite some time that the name ‘ICE’ should be changed to ‘NICE.’ It would totally confuse dishonest and unpatriotic reporters and journalists.”

The president said the change would force critics to use positive-sounding phrases when referring to immigration enforcement activities.

“For them to say, ‘We went to a NICE facility today,’ or ‘NICE agents deported a violent drug dealer,’ they won’t be able to handle it. They will go totally crazy,” he said.

Trump explained that the proposed name would simply add “National” to Immigration and Customs Enforcement, giving the agency what he described as a “more prestigious name.”

He, however, admitted that the idea had received mixed reactions from within the agency itself. While he claimed many people supported the proposal, he said former acting ICE Director Tom Homan had informed him that many agents were not enthusiastic about the change.

Trump ended the post by asking Americans whether they supported the idea of changing ICE to NICE.

The proposal comes as immigration enforcement remains a divisive issue in the United States. ICE has long enjoyed strong backing from conservatives for its role in deporting undocumented immigrants, while critics have accused the agency of adopting harsh tactics.

The president’s comments sparked widespread reactions on social media, with supporters expressing approval and critics dismissing the idea as a distraction from more pressing national issues.

As of the time of filing this report, neither ICE officials nor the Department of Homeland Security had issued any response to the proposal.
