The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Mr. Nyesom Wike, has expressed that providing water to Abuja's satellite towns is a top priority for President Bola Tinubu's administration. Wike made this known following his inspection of several ongoing projects in Abuja, where he also addressed questions about his recent visit to China.

In a bid to improve water access, Wike confirmed that the FCTA had signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the China Geo-Engineering Corporation Overseas Construction (CGCOC) Group. The visit to China was a follow-up on discussions with the company concerning water projects for the satellite towns. The minister emphasized that President Tinubu had made the water provision for Abuja’s satellite towns a key focus, ensuring that part of the funding has already been included in the National Budget.

Wike stated that this critical project aligns with the Tinubu administration’s vision to improve the quality of life for residents in areas such as Bwari, Karu, and parts of Kubwa. He also noted that the procurement process was already underway, with the Bureau of Public Procurement handling the necessary steps.

Additionally, Wike lauded President Tinubu for his continued support for the FCT administration, which extends beyond just water projects to include infrastructure, health, and education. He disclosed that 85% of the FCT's statutory budget would go toward completing ongoing projects, with 15% earmarked for new initiatives.

The minister underscored the administration's focus on finishing existing projects, such as the renovation of schools and improvement of healthcare services, before moving on to new ones. He also revealed that the education sector had received a significant allocation of N140 billion for capital projects, emphasizing the administration’s commitment to not just building, but completing projects that will benefit the people.

This focus on water infrastructure, coupled with educational and health sector improvements, showcases the administration's drive to enhance living conditions and ensure sustainable development in the FCT.
