The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office has sealed a public toilet located on Savage Street, Ebute Metta, for allegedly pumping raw sewage into a public drainage system.
The Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed this in a statement shared on X on Thursday, noting that the facility was sealed on Wednesday.
According to Wahab, the enforcement action followed reports that the operators deliberately discharged untreated sewage into the public drain, leading to offensive odour and sewage overflow within the community.
He described the act as a public nuisance and a serious case of environmental pollution, warning that it poses major health risks to residents.
Wahab urged Lagosians to maintain proper wastewater disposal and hygiene practices, stressing that the government will not tolerate activities that endanger public health.

“Any act of environmental nuisance or pollution will attract appropriate sanctions and possible prosecution,” he warned.
Meanwhile, the commissioner also recently hinted that the state may bring back the monthly environmental sanitation exercise, which was suspended in 2016.
He said discussions are ongoing and the exercise could return on or before March, following rising concerns over blocked drainages and indiscriminate waste disposal across the state.
