Afenifere applauds police, Lagos and Ogun governors over anti-kidnapping operation

The pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, has praised the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, alongside the governors of Ogun and Lagos states, Dapo Abiodun and Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for their efforts in tackling kidnapping and banditry along the Sagamu-Ore Road corridor.

In a letter signed by the group's National Organising Secretary, Abagun Omololu, on behalf of Afenifere leader, Chief Reuben Fasoranti, the organisation described the security operation as a major step towards restoring safety and public confidence along the busy highway.

Afenifere said the coordinated operation demonstrated effective leadership, professional policing and strong collaboration between neighbouring states.

According to the group, the support provided by the Lagos and Ogun State governments enabled security agencies to carry out their responsibilities effectively.

It also commended the Inspector-General of Police for strengthening intelligence-driven policing and providing strategic leadership in the fight against organised crime.

The group gave special recognition to the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Olubode Ojajuni, for his understanding of the security challenges within the operational area, noting that local intelligence played a key role in the success of the operation.

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police was equally praised for providing personnel, equipment and logistics that contributed to the operation.

Afenifere reaffirmed its support for ongoing security efforts, stressing that kidnappers, bandits and other violent criminals would no longer have safe havens in Yorubaland.

"The message is clear: there is no hiding place for criminals in Yorubaland. Anyone who threatens the peace and security of our people will face the full weight of the law," the organisation said.

The group also expressed appreciation to security agencies and political leaders for what it described as their commitment to protecting lives and property.

The commendation followed the launch of Operation Kosaye, a joint security operation by the Lagos and Ogun State Police Commands aimed at dismantling kidnapping gangs, armed robbers and other criminal groups operating in forests and border communities between the two states.

So far, the operation has resulted in the arrest of 88 suspects, the rescue of five kidnapped victims, the recovery of arms and ammunition, and the killing of four suspected kidnappers during encounters with security operatives.
