The Nigeria Police Force has forwarded the case file on the killing of 28-year-old Mene Ogidi in Effurun, Delta State, to the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation for prosecution.
The move follows the confirmation of the dismissal of officers implicated in the incident by the Police Service Commission.
Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, made this known during a press briefing at the Force Headquarters in Abuja on Sunday, describing the development as a major step toward justice.
According to him, the case file has been formally submitted for legal review and prosecution, with the police pledging full cooperation to ensure the matter is taken to court and concluded properly.
Adejobi said the Police Service Commission had reviewed and approved the recommendation to dismiss ASP Nuhu and three other officers found responsible for the unlawful killing, with the decision taking immediate effect.
He added that the officers have been arrested and are currently in custody following the conclusion of internal disciplinary procedures.
Investigations into the April 26 incident revealed that the officers’ actions amounted to professional misconduct, abuse of office, and behaviour likely to disrupt public peace.

Providing details of the घटना, Adejobi explained that the victim had received a parcel from Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, which he attempted to send to Sapele. The parcel was later found to contain a locally made Beretta pistol and four rounds of 9mm ammunition, leading to his arrest by civilians before police arrived.
However, upon reaching the scene, ASP Nuhu, who led the police team, allegedly shot the already apprehended and unarmed suspect, in violation of standard rules of engagement.
“The Force wishes to be clear: no suspicion, no matter how serious, justifies extrajudicial action. Every suspect has the right to due process,” he said.
Adejobi also disclosed that efforts are ongoing to arrest other individuals linked to the incident, including the driver who delivered the parcel and two vigilante members.
Reaffirming the Force’s stance on accountability, he assured the public and the victim’s family that justice would be pursued without bias.
“The Nigeria Police Force does not protect officers who break the law. No rank or position is above accountability,” he said.
He urged Nigerians to remain calm and cooperate with authorities as the legal process continues.
