A retired Controller of Works from the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing, AbdulRazaq Ajani, was brutally murdered on New Year’s Day in his residence in Tanke, Ilorin, Kwara State. The shocking incident occurred around 3 pm, shortly after Ajani and his family returned from celebrating the New Year in Offa, their hometown.
Kwara State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, confirmed the incident, stating that investigations have commenced but no arrests have been made.
Eyewitness accounts and CCTV footage revealed that four young men, aged between 18 and 22, carried out the attack. Two suspects loitered outside Ajani’s gate while the other two strolled into the compound. They engaged Ajani in a brief conversation at his doorstep before attacking him.
A family member described the horrifying scene:
“The late Engineer was attacked and hacked to death in the presence of his wife and children. His blood stains the walls, and his brain was scattered on the floor.”
Sympathizers have flocked to the residence, consoling Ajani's bereaved family, while police officers have visited the crime scene to gather evidence.
Ajani retired from the Federal Ministry of Works four years ago but accepted a contract appointment in 2024. His untimely death has left his community and colleagues in shock.
The police urge anyone with information about the incident to come forward to aid the investigation.
