The Nigeria Democratic Congress has held its state congress in Cross River State, where former Inter-Party Advisory Council chairman, Goddy Akpama, emerged as the new state chairman through a consensus arrangement.
The congress, supervised by the Independent National Electoral Commission, took place on Monday at the Chinese Restaurant, Cross River State Housing Estate in Calabar.
The exercise was conducted by a committee led by Christian Gekpe, with Emmanuel Yakurr and Gabriel Abu as members, while Clement Agiangie chaired the appeal panel.
In his acceptance speech, Akpama pledged to justify the confidence placed in him, promising to run an inclusive leadership that accommodates all party members.
He said his administration would focus on unity and strengthening the party ahead of the 2027 general elections, urging members to remain committed and avoid any form of internal division.

Akpama also expressed strong support for the party’s anticipated presidential ticket, backing Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso as candidates he believes can lead Nigeria in 2027.
He assured stakeholders that he would work closely with party leaders to ensure electoral victory at the national level.
Also speaking at the event, Clement Agiangie called for unity among members and warned against allowing financial influence to take over party structures, urging fairness and discipline in internal processes.
Another party leader, Duke, praised the turnout at the congress, claiming that the party had recorded a surge in membership registrations, which he said reflected growing public interest in the NDC.
