The Federal Operations Unit (FOU), Zone ‘A’ of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has intensified its crackdown on smuggling activities, recording massive successes within the last two weeks. Area Controller Kola Oladeji disclosed during a media briefing in Lagos that the unit seized goods valued at over N18 billion and apprehended 94 suspected smugglers.
Oladeji highlighted the role of the newly launched "Operation Swift Sting", which has bolstered efforts to combat illicit cross-border trade. "These achievements underscore our determination to protect the economy and security against smuggling and other illegal activities around our borders," he said.

- 48,912 bags of 50kg foreign parboiled rice
- 191,975 liters of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS)
- 7,861 kg of cannabis sativa
- 6,168 pieces of dry donkey skins
- 37,630 sachets of Tramadol
- 6,755 cartons of frozen poultry
- 1,433 bales of used clothing
- 1,773 units of used refrigerator compressors
- 317 cartons of illicit medicament
- Revenue Generation:
Through detailed checks and demand notices for underpaid customs duties, the unit generated N1.01 billion in additional revenue. - Convictions and Legal Action:
Six individuals have been convicted of various offences, while others are undergoing trial, reflecting the NCS's commitment to justice and deterrence.
